Albums
Toto's discography includes 13 studio albums and four live albums. There are also a few compilations. In addition to releasing original music, Toto has also done collaborations with other artists and on soundtracks for films. Toto has won numerous Grammy Awards.
Before Toto was formed the members of the group performed sessions for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session percussionist Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs 1975 album Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in the year 1976 following the collaboration.
Turn Back, Toto's third studio album, was criticized by critics due to the absence of hit singles. In 1985 the lead singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group and the group held auditions for a new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the band recorded the album Fahrenheit in 1986.
Toto released Toto XX in 1998 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band. The band dug through old tapes and recordings to create the special record. The album was a hit by fans, and the band embarked on a tour that featured former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro, and Joseph Williams.
Shem von Schröck replaced Leland Sklar as drummer on the tour for the 40 Trips Around the Sun album. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live album titled Falling in Between, which included recordings from the tour and an interview with the band.
